Located at the southern most tip of Marin County just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, Sausalito was first established in the mid 19th century, making it one of the oldest communities in the North Bay region. Early Spanish explorers named the community "Saucelito" for the little willow trees they found growing there.
A stroll along the downtown reveals world famous art galleries, fantastic restaurants and sunny open-air cafes. Sausalito is also surrounded on three sides by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which is part of nearly 40 square miles of publicly accessible open space. Great hiking, biking, and historical sites are only minutes away. Regular ferry service and proximity to the bridge make the town easily accessible to both tourists and commuters. It is also a prized business and residential location, boasting a temperate climate, old world charm and some of the region's most spectacular views.
